ProFe is a high-potency iron supplement that helps promote healthy red blood cell formation and immune health. ProFe is well-tolerated by the body so there is virtually no stomach upset or constipation which can be common with other forms of iron.

  • ProFe contains 180 mg of elemental iron – a polysaccharide-iron complex as a cell-contracted akaganeite.
  • Cell-contracted akaganeite is an inorganic form of iron that occurs naturally in the earth and can be manufactured.

The ProFe Advantage

ProFe is a non-ionic iron supplement that was designed to be easily digestible and easily absorbed. The non-ionic formulation is well-tolerated by the body so there is a low incidence of stomach cramps, nausea, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation which may occur with other iron supplements. The small #1 size capsule is easy-to-swallow.

If you are iron deficient, your healthcare provider may recommend an iron supplement.

Iron deficiency anemia occurs when there is not enough iron in the body to support normal red blood cell production.

Iron deficiency anemia may be due to:

  • Blood loss – Slow, internal blood loss caused by an ulcer, colon polyp, hiatal hernia, or colorectal cancer can lead to iron deficiency anemia. Gastrointestinal bleeding can also result from regular use of some over-the-counter pain relievers, including aspirin. Women with heavy periods may be at risk of iron deficiency anemia.
  • Lack of iron through diet – Low iron consumption through one’s diet can lead to iron deficiency. A vegetarian or vegan diet may make one more prone to iron deficiency.
  • Inability to absorb iron – Intestinal disorders, such as Celiac Disease and gastric bypass surgery, can affect the intestine’s ability to absorb iron from digested food which can lead to iron deficiency anemia.
  • Pregnancy – Pregnant women may have iron deficiency anemia because their iron stores need to serve their own increased blood volume AND provide hemoglobin for the growing baby.

Signs and symptoms of iron deficiency anemia:

  • Weakness & tiredness
  • Shortness of breath with activity
  • Fast heartbeat or dizziness
  • Headaches or trouble concentrating
  • Pale skin
  • Sore or swollen tongue & mouth
  • Nails that break easily
  • An urge to eat ice, paint, starch, or dirt
